1. Swimwear & Changing Logictics: There are very rudimentary, local wooden changing cubicles on-site. We highly recommend wearing your swimsuit underneath your regular clothes before leaving your Moshi hotel. This saves you the hassle of changing in cramped, rustic quarters upon arrival. 2. The Underwater Footwear Rule: While the main swimming channels have smooth sandy spots, the entry edges, underwater caves, and submerged tree roots can be sharp, rocky, and highly slippery. Water shoes or strap-on sports sandals are highly recommended. Regular flip-flops will simply float away when you swim. 3. Bring Your Own Towels & Dry Bags: Towel rental facilities do not exist at the hot springs. Ensure you pack a fresh, dry towel from your hotel. Additionally, a compact waterproof dry-bag or a simple plastic bag is excellent for keeping your dry clothes separate from your wet gear on the return drive. 4. Snorkel Masks & Waterproof Cameras (GoPros): The water is so transparent that the underwater landscape is a photographer's dream. If you enjoy diving or snorkeling, bring your own snorkel mask or goggles to inspect the deep underwater caverns and roots. A GoPro or a waterproof housing case for your smartphone is a massive bonus here. 5. Sun Protection & Strong UV Warnings: Even though the main pools are shaded by massive fig trees, the sun can be intensely hot when relaxing on the outer banks or during the open-air drive. Apply a high-SPF reef-safe sunscreen, wear a wide-brimmed hat, and sport UV-protection sunglasses. 6. Midweek Planning vs. Weekends: Chemka Hot Springs is a beloved recreational hotspot for local Tanzanian families and independent travelers. Weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) can get quite loud and crowded. For a peaceful, exclusive, and highly romantic "private oasis" experience, we strongly advise booking this day trip on a weekday (Monday to Friday). 7. Water Safety for Non-Swimmers: The main lagoon has a very strong, gentle current that slowly pushes swimmers down the channel, and some cavernous drop-offs plummet down to 10 meters deep. There are no professional lifeguards stationed on-site. If you are not a strong swimmer, local vendors rent simple black inflatable inner tubes for $2–$3 USD which provide excellent flotation support. 8. Cash Currency & Vendor Etiquette: Credit cards, mobile wallets, and travelers' checks are absolutely not accepted anywhere near the springs. Always carry small-denomination bills of Tanzanian Shillings (TZS) or US Dollars ($1, $5, or $10 bills) for purchasing extra cold drinks or renting swim tubes from village vendors. 9. Premium Flight Day Connection: If your safari or mountain trek concludes today and you fly out tonight, do not waste your day sitting in a hotel lobby. We can collect you from Moshi Town, store your main luggage safely inside our secure private vehicle during the day trip, and execute a complimentary direct drop-off to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) in time for your evening international flight check-in.
