- Altitude Acclimatization Note: Because this is a single-day excursion that ascends rapidly by vehicle from Arusha (~1,400m) or Moshi (~900m) straight to 3,400m, natural altitude acclimatization is very limited. To ensure safety and prevent Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), the trek is strictly paced at a slow, deliberate speed (“Pole Pole”), and hikers are monitored closely by certified wilderness guides.
- Climate & Weather: Extreme alpine microclimate. The rim and plateau are heavily exposed to weather shifts; mornings can be crisp and clear, but temperatures drop rapidly from 15°C (59°F) down to 5°C (41°F) or near freezing if afternoon mist, strong winds, or mountain rain roll across the caldera.
